Arnold Schwarzenegger raced after excellence throughout his life. Time had rewarded him with a successful bodybuilding career and fame as an adventurous action hero for his drive for being Number 1. However, the early days as an actor weren’t easy for the Austrian champion. The Pumping Iron, 1977, turned the tables and boosted his popularity among audiences. Then started his saga as an action hero.

Though the movie Terminator smashed box office records, the Austrian Oak wasn’t happy as he wanted an enemy to compete. The 1980s gave him one in the form of Sylvester Stallone. Now, he opened up about his rivalry in the second episode of his docuseries Arnold on Netflix.

The 1980s were known for action films and the stars of the genre were Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone. Audiences weren’t unaware of their rivalry but they would’ve not known that the rivalry had fueled them to surpass each other in excellence. “Sly was ahead of me in the 80’s, so it was for me to catch up,” the Terminator star confessed in his series.

Every time he came out with a movie, like Rambo II, I had to figure out a way of now outdoing that,” Arnie further added shedding light on his movie strategy. The episode ‘Actor‘ also includes a snippet from an interview where the host was comparing the two action legends.

This new film you’ve made, Commando, it’s been, of course, compared to Rambo,” pointed out the host. “You can’t compare those two films because mine doesn’t take place in a jungle,” came an honest reply for Schwarzenegger. So the interviewer further added, “How about the muscles? How do yours compare with Mr. Stallone’s?”  Arnie had a savage reply for this, “I mean, I’m the one that won the titles, so I don’t have to defend myself.” The arch-rivals, however, turned out to be staunch friends over time.

Rivalry is a thing of past for the action heroes

The Rocky star and The Predator icon rivalry ended in the 1990s and they could be seen dancing together at the 43rd Cannes Film Festival. “We danced the Waltz,” once confessed the Commando actor.
