Peeps Nicol, a 71-year-old woman with multiple sclerosis, proves that life does not end in the age of 60s or 70s. Despite facing the sorrow of losing her husband, she did not back down and became a powerlifter, even after life threw curveballs at her. Previously describing her health as “unfit”, she needed a ray of hope after these challenges came her way.

After taking up the sport, she is much healthier and bodybuilding has brought a positive change in her life. BBC shared her inspirational story through Instagram and Nicol is giving hope to a lot of people like her. The story is inspiring and will give a new perspective on bodybuilding.

Peeps Nicol chose powerlifting after her husband?s demise

Nicol?s husband Brian Nicol passed away in April 2020, from a chronic lung disease called Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis according to BBC. Nicol had expressed her sorrow at the loss and also revealed that since she was looking after her ailing husband, she did not have the time to look after herself and became unfit. Peeps also decided to take up triathlon, but the symptom of imbalance due to MS became a hindrance.

However, she did not give up. Nicol joined a gym to work out on her stiff joints, and that is when she found powerlifting. This helped her with her balance and boosted her confidence. Nicol said in the Instagram video by BBC: ?It made me feel so much stronger and better about myself. I?m not a puny little widow anymore. I?m Peeps with her superpower.? ?Nicol was determined to prove herself, and her prowess made her enroll in a novice competition in March at JC Strength Academy. Peeps also talked about her heaviest deadlift and said, ?The heaviest I?ve deadlifted is 55kg. There?s more to come.?

The woman who was restricted by society and somewhat by her triathlete and soldier husband is now overcoming incredible feats. However, her husband did support her when he was alive and his confidence in her boosted her to go into powerlifting. Peeps Nicol will enter another novice competition in September and surely ace it. Peeps Nicol is not alone in her journey and have the support of another 80-year-old powerlifter with no prior experience.

Nora Langdon pushed boundaries at 80

She is no common grandmother and owns multiple wins at state, national, and world powerlifting championships. Langdon took powerlifting in 2006 and since then she is on a roll. The grandma who had no prior experience with sports is now a champion.

In a previously posted video by Refinery29, Nora shared her journey in bodybuilding. She had never heard about powerlifting but things took a turn when she realised her difficulty in climbing stairs due to her weight. Now she has changed the game and says, ?I?m a professional powerlifter. I can lift 338 pounds. Nobody can beat that record in my age group.?
