In the world of bodybuilding and sports performance, the use of anabolic steroids has long been a contentious topic. These performance-enhancing substances can offer rapid muscle gains and increased physical performance, but they also come with various potential side effects. Among these side effects, hair loss is one of the most common and bothersome issues.
Recently, during a podcast featuring prominent bodybuilding figures, Dave Palumbo, Milos Sarcev, Dennis James, Chris Cormier, and Dennis Newman, the topic of hair loss caused by steroid use was brought to the forefront.

Anabolic steroids can affect the body in numerous ways, both positively and negatively. One of the main culprits behind hair loss in steroid users is the conversion of testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT is a potent androgen that can lead to hair follicle miniaturization, eventually causing hair to become thinner and fall out.
The genetic predisposition to hair loss plays a significant role in determining who is more susceptible to this issue. Individuals with a family history of male pattern baldness (androgenetic alopecia) are more likely to experience hair loss when using steroids, especially those that are highly androgenic in nature.
Amidst many other topics, the bodybuilders started discussing this topic after Dave asked. “I think it applies to everyone on the panel except Milos, cause Milos still has his hair. How traumatizing was it…how traumatizing was it when you..start losing your hair?” while conversing about this, Dennis James suggested Palumbo get a hair transplant from Turkey. “From all over the world, everybody flies to Turkey now. Why? It’s super cheap,” suggested James.

Continuing further, James responded to the question by admitting, “In my case, it didn’t bother me at all because I had a full set of hair, I just had this little spot here.” Adding to this, Dennis jokingly stated, “And that little spot made me look like I’m from the 90s from the rear.”
Cormier, on the other hand, admitted that “It wasn’t easy” for him. The podcast discussion initiated by Dave Palumbo raised an essential question about the potentially traumatizing impact of hair loss experienced by some steroid users. It is crucial for individuals considering or currently using steroids to be well-informed about the potential side effects, including hair loss.
