Arnold Schwarzenegger started his newsletter to help people reach their fitness goals. Since launching it in January, the bodybuilding icon has shared tips on workouts, diet, mental health, and more. However, today’s newsletter contains something no other edition of Arnold’s Pump Club came with. The Austrian Oak recently surprised his fans by posting about his training session with eight-time Mr. Olympia Ronnie Coleman. However, Arnie had another surprise for his readers.
In the latest edition of Arnold’s Pump Club, the five-time Mr. Universe shared an extended look at his and Coleman’s training session. While Schwarzenegger and Ronnie Coleman had shared images and reels on Instagram, Arnie provided a link to an unlisted YouTube video. In the video, Schwarzenegger hilariously pointed out the reason Coleman won one more Olympia title than him.

Arnold Schwarzenegger and Ronnie Coleman belong to different eras of bodybuilding. While Arnie was among the golden era bodybuilders, the 59-year-old was the epitome of the mass monster era. However, one thing was common between the seven-time and the eight-time Mr. Olympia, the intensity with which they worked in the gym.
Even today, when Arnold Schwarzenegger has turned 76, the exclusive video gave fans a glimpse of their dedication. In the video, Ronnie Coleman and Arnold Schwarzenegger exercised on the shoulder press machine. Despite his ailments, Coleman didn’t lose his intensity and busted out 15 reps during a set. The former Mr. Olympia’s work ethic impressed Arnie and showed praise for the eight-time Mr. Olympia, albeit with a bit of humor.
“Look at those reps how can anyone keep up with this stuff?” said the seven-time Mr. Olympia. “Oh, man! you see that’s the difference between this eight-time Mr. Olympia and a mere seven times,” added Arnie jokingly. The King also laughed at Schwarzenegger’s remark before motivating him for the next set of shoulder presses. However, this begs the question: how did the two legends train in their prime?
The work ethic of champions
Arnold Schwarzenegger and Ronnie Coleman share 15 Mr. Olympia titles between them. However, they could achieve such greatness because they spent hours at the gym, pouring their blood, sweat, and tears into each workout session. The Austrian Oak spent five hours in the gym besides rest days. He divided these five hours into 2.5-hour workout sessions. Schwarzenegger also pumped out a lot of volume. Despite lifting relatively heavy, Schwarzenegger did high reps and sets for each exercise.
On the flip side, Ronnie Coleman kept the rep range between 8 to 12. He also performed fewer sets than Arnie. However, the bodybuilding legend lifted an insanely heavy weight. Contemporaries of Coleman, like four-time Mr. Olympia Jay Cutler, said no one could out-lift Coleman in the gym. The King’s 800 lbs squat and deadlift video are examples of his strength.
