Months after the Writers’ Guild went on strike, even the actors have joined them on the picket lines since July 13. The SAG-AFTRA is striking for better work conditions and increased pay because Hollywood productions have been compensating the actors with unfair negotiations. However, as the opposition tries to refute their claims, the need for financial assistance rises. The latest news on the matter is pro wrestler turned Hollywood star Dwayne Johnson’s 7-figure donation to the union, showing his support for the cause.

In addition to The Rock, even bodybuilding legend Arnold Schwarzenegger’s son expressed his solidarity with the union. Patrick shared a post on Twitter that demanded the actors be given the compensation they deserve.

Taking to Twitter hours ago, the 29-year-old actor reshared a post by Discussing Film that explained SAG-AFTRA’s proposal to the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP). It stated that the union had petitioned for a deal that is estimated to cost $23 million to each studio annually. This encouraged bold insight from the star kid.

Patrick noted that studios and production houses are ready to spend millions on movie budgets, but when providing the proposed amount for the actors, they are hesitant. He questioned their integrity and claimed that their actions didn’t justify their values.

“If this is true.. this should happen asap. Mindlessly spending 250Mil + on movie budgets but caring so much about 25mil toward SAG doesn’t add up,” he wrote in the post. This could be a value-add to the union, as it requires more and more representatives for the community. Additionally, as the union president stated, Johnson’s efforts were beneficial to the union.

Dwayne Johnson’s donation was a milestone in SAG-AFTRA history

The union comprises 160,000 members fighting for their rights, while 2,700 of the union’s highest earners were sent letters explaining the financial crisis and the need for help, as per Variety. Therefore, The Rock rocked the union with his lump sum donation, marked as the highest from a single donor, after years of the union’s establishment in 1985.

It was referred to as a “milestone” by a representative of SAG-AFTRA. Although the exact amount donated by the star remains confidential, it is designated to aid around 7,000 to 10,000 members of the union. “It is a call to arms for all of us to know that we just have to step up however you can,” Union President Vance told sources.
