A god in Chinese mythology, the Monkey King emerged as an iconic fiction hero in the modern generation after a couple of movies were based on it. Hence, Hollywood actor, Daniel Wu starring as the Monkey King in the American action comedy series, American Born Chinese, gained much recognition from fans. A recent interview on YouTube by Men?s Health featured Wu shedding light on his workout routine for the superhero character.?
The actor revealed the unique additions to his workout prep which mostly encircles specifics of martial arts training. He asserted the significance of warm-up exercises and claimed that he begins the routine quite slowly but steadily.?

As per the interview, the 48-year-old actor expressed his excitement upon getting a call for the role in American Born Chinese, more so, for an iconic character as the Monkey King. He shared that the character?s story and its journey to the West is ?one of the four pillars? of Chinese literature. Hence, he felt grateful to have the opportunity to bring the character to life and show it to the world.?
The primary motive of the video was to portray the method and strategies used by Wu behind his on-screen action finesse. He intended to reveal the whole range of workouts he uses, and said, ?I start really slow by doing a bit of warm-up activation exercises, getting all the muscles to activate.??
Followed by demonstrating a set of unique exercises with an instrument called a Clubbell. ?A combination of activation exercises, stretches, and then into the workouts, which will be a combination of martial arts as well as functional strength training,? the Hong Kong star added. Starting his session with Clubbell Supination, which works out all the parts of the shoulder and arms followed by Clubbell Pronation, Overhead circles, and Single-arm halo. However, the central part of his training was much more interesting.?

Upon completing his warm-up exercises, Wu got to the real talk. He introduced the foremost part of his martial arts routine, Wushu Stance training. The actor stated that stances are a significant part of the discipline and the aforesaid is a more ?stylized? version, usually not applied during fights.?

After an elaborate description and demonstration of the Wushu stance, the star moved on to the next part of his workout, Kettlebell Mobility and Strength Circuit. Starting off with a rear lunge overhead press, for 3 sets and 10 reps, he seemed to enjoy his regime.
