Arnold Schwarzenegger’s tale of success is never boring. The 76-year-old has been in the public eye since his bodybuilding days, and he never stops to fascinate the crowd with revelations of his impeccable journey. Hollywood’s favorite action hero is now sharing tips for a successful life through his new self-help book, Be Useful: Seven Tools for Life.

The Austrian Oak recently appeared on the Literally! with Rob Lowe show and spilled beans on how Hollywood actors in the 1970s were telling great lies before Schwarzenegger took it upon himself to break stereotypes.

The 7x Mr. Olympia started lifting weights in his teens to win elite bodybuilding titles. At 20, he won Mr. Universe and traveled to America at 21. From 1970 to 1975, he reigned on the Mr. Olympia stage before shifting gears. Arnie made it big in Hollywood with his action movies in the 1980s. Till then, movie lovers witnessed only lean yet fit men as leading heroes of the 1970s, like Robert Mitchum, Clint Eastwood, etc.

But the Terminator icon revolutionized the cinema arena with his ripped physique, and his legacy continues, as all the Marvel heroes are now shredded and known for their workout regimes. But the 1970s actors kept their fitness routines a secret. “Clint was always working out. But what happened—and what was different then—was that those guys were working out secretly. Because I remember Clint saying to me, he after Universal machine and, ‘You know Harold Zinkin, who created the universal machines; he gave me the machines, and I have it in my house, and so no one knows that I’m working out.’”

Fascinated by Eastwood’s confession, Arnie inquired, “This is a secret?” The 93-year-old then made a shocking revelation: ”Yes! Just you know, it’s always better when you say, I was born like that.” It was not until Schwarzenegger’s Pumping Iron introduced the training routine of bodybuilders in 1977 to the masses that the idea of sculpted physique and gyming became popular.

‘The Governator’ was so passionate about his sport, bodybuilding, that he wanted to make people aware of the athletes’ lifestyle in his arena. To make the sport reach the masses, Schwarzenegger was featured in the Pumping Iron documentary that captured bodybuilders’ routines for 100 days before 1975 Mr. Olympia.

The masses went crazy for the film, and it was a big sensation in the 1970s. Soon, Arnie introduced the novelty of a ripped physique onto the silver screen with films like Conan the BarbarianThe TerminatorCommando, etc.
