Why is the Arnold Sports Festival held in Ohio?
Bodybuilding legend Arnold Schwarzenegger won the 1970 Pro Mr. World at the Veteran’s Memorial in Columbus, Ohio. He defeated Sergio Olivia for the first time and became friends with the promoter of the show – Jim Lorimer. After his retirement, he co-promoted pro contests in his hometown.
Till 2014, the Veteran’s Memorial Auditorium was one of the most classic venues for professional Bodybuilding. Later on, in 2015, it was demolished and then the festival shifted to the Battelle Grand Ballroom at the Greater Columbus Convention Center.
What are the champions rewarded with?
The Arnold Sports Festival offers a series of large prizes, which is one of the primary reasons behind its huge success. The first prize in the bodybuilding contest is a whopping $130000 check, with a Hummer vehicle along with an Audemars Piguet watch. There has also been an igniting competition between the Arnold Sports Festival and Mr. Olympia because the latter offers title pre-dates and also has comparatively higher prize money.
Just like the Olympia, the Arnold Sports Festival is also hotly contested. It comes with one or two competitions, which helps in separating the winners of the show.
