Arnold Schwarzenegger, renowned for his legendary bodybuilding career, has always sought innovative ways to enhance performance. Recently, he revealed a surprisingly effective tool for boosting workouts: music. Yes, you heard it right! In his newsletter, Arnold’s Pump Club, he enthusiastically shared, “If you want the ultimate natural workout boost, grab your headphones and turn up your favorite playlist.”

Schwarzenegger isn’t just talking from experience; it’s backed by research. He cited studies showing that music significantly improves exercise performance. “Music is one of the most effective ways to improve your workout,” he emphasized. It’s not just about enjoyment; music increases motivation, enhances endurance and strength, and reduces the perception of effort and fatigue.

Explaining why music works so well, Schwarzenegger pointed out that it distracts the mind during exercise. Without music, the body’s signals of tiredness can limit performance. However, “listening to music distracts your brain, reduces your perception of fatigue, and can help you train harder,” stated the former governor.

Furthermore, research also indicates that exercising to a rhythm “beat makes you more efficient with your movements,” conserving energy and preventing exhaustion. Moreover, music has a mood-elevating effect, making workouts more enjoyable and sustainable. According to Arnie, Dr. Costas Karageorghis, a researcher in this field, suggests that music can be likened to “a legal performance-enhancing drug” due to its profound impact on physical output.

While optimizing playlists based on tempo can be beneficial, Schwarzenegger reassures that simplicity works too. The key is to choose songs that personally resonate and evoke positive emotions. This approach ensures that each workout session becomes not just a physical challenge, but an enjoyable experience that enhances overall well-being. Besides, he also shared a unique twist to shoulder exercise in his social media post.

Arnold Schwarzenegger shared a unique twist to dumbbell raise

Earlier, the Austrian Oak shared a special shoulder exercise on social media that helped him win seven Mr. Olympia titles. In a never-before-seen clip from “Pumping Iron,” he demonstrated a unique twist on the dumbbell raise. “Here is some unseen footage from Pumping Iron that was in my archive. I love to do side-lying dumbbell raises, I don’t see many people doing them anymore, but they are a fantastic deltoid pump!“  Arnie wrote. Though he didn’t name who taught him.

According to the 76-year-old, the side-lying dumbbell raise is better than the standard lateral raise because it targets the medial deltoid more effectively. Unlike the standing version, which doesn’t stress the muscle at the lowest point, the side-lying position keeps tension on the muscle throughout the movement. He also suggested swinging the arms in front to boost the deltoid stretch and stimulation.

To enhance your performance and gains in the gym, start your workout with a rhythmic beat and incorporate the twist while working on your shoulders to ensure maximum gains.
