Arnold Schwarzenegger does not need any introduction, however, his rise to fame definitely deserves all the limelights. He is a legendary bodybuilding champion with 5X Mr. Olympia wins and 7X Mr. Universe titles. Apart from this, he starred in iconic movies like Terminator and The Aftermath. Arnold was on every magazine cover in the 70s and rules the fitness world. However, all these did not come in one day. The latest documentary series on Netflix named ‘Arnold’, chronicles his origin, rise to fame, and consistency of career.

In episode 1, the story of Arnold, a young boy from Austria commences. From his hardships in a war-stricken country to coming to America and becoming a bodybuilding sensation, everything is shown in this episode. The aspect of mental health problems of him and his brother due to their broken father is another core matter that fueled his ambitions. Shedding light on mental health, un-celebrated birthdays, and newfound life, Arnold shared his experiences in this documentary.

Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Birthday was never celebrated

It was the summer of 1969, and Arnie met Barbara Outland Baker, his soon-to-be girlfriend of 6 years. They went on their first date and that is when they decided to be in a relationship. Barbara said, “He was handsome. He was magnetic. He was Charismatic. He was just different. After our first date. We saw each other all the time that we could. He created laughter everywhere.”

After her part of the story, Arnold started describing how he celebrated his birthday for the first time because of her. He said, “Barbara was the first time that I saw, through her, kind of how America celebrates Christmas because she would take me home. And the family would just be so inclusive.” Then he said something remarkable, “It was the first time in my life that I ever celebrated a birthday when Barbara’s mother made a birthday cake.” Arnie also recalled, “ I never got a cake. No one ever sang ‘Happy Birthday’ or anything.”

This heartwarming gesture made him overwhelmed. Since he did not get a good childhood in his family. He found a family in America through his friends.

Arnold’s relationship with his father

In the very first episode of the documentary, the 75-year-old bodybuilding legend talked about a stressful childhood in his homeland due to the war. Arnie said that he did not have an ideal relationship with his brother and father along with having PTSD.

His father was a war veteran and due to that mental trauma, he never hot a happy childhood. Schwarzenegger never even celebrated a birthday. However, he found a new home and family in America.
