Four-time Mr. Olympia Jay Cutler stepped on the Olympia stage for the last time in 2013. However, despite retiring from competitive bodybuilding a decade ago, the 50-year-old didn’t retire from the gym. Today, the founder of Cutler Nutrition regularly trains in the gym despite his busy schedule of managing a business.

Yet, you might wonder why. Why does a man, who became the only bodybuilder to avenge his Mr. Olympia title loss and regain it, still train? Is it just because he loves bodybuilding like other legends such as Ronnie Coleman and Arnold Schwarzenegger? While that is part of the reason, the Comeback Kid revealed another factor that keeps him coming back to lifting weights. It’s something he wants everyone to follow.

In one of his latest short videos, Jay Cutler explained how “the gym became my savior.” The 50-year-old explained that training in the gym has become like meditation for him. The former Mr. Olympia finds mental clarity while exercising. Actively concentrating on the mind-muscle connection puts his mind in a place where he can focus without distraction.

Cutler said this helps him deal with the stressful things in his life and plan strategically. The bodybuilding icon believes that everyone will benefit from this. “We’re always going to get stressed… always going to have family… or relationship issues or stress with school or work with our peers,” the Arnold Classic winner said. However, Cutler believes you should approach every situation with positivity.

The Comeback Kid explained that exercising helps you develop a positive attitude. It gives you the mental agency to tackle challenging situations. For Cutler, working out is one of the things that “that balance you out.” So the bodybuilder recommends you “surround yourself with greatness… and you will be able to achieve” your goals. However, the former champion goes one step further than most 50-year-olds.

Jay Cutler is fit at 50

While Jay Cutler hadn’t competed in a decade, the bodybuilder wanted to get into the best shape of his life for his 50th birthday. Despite never halting his fitness regimen, the former champion’s physique was nowhere near his prime. However, the then 49-year-old decided to change that with the Fit at 50 challenge.

Yet again, Cutler’s Fit at 50 didn’t look like that of the average person. The four-time Mr. Olympia champion tried to get as close to his prime physique as possible. He started training like he was preparing for a contest and even went back to his bodybuilding diet. The result was an astonishing transformation at 50.
