Flex Wheeler, the four times Arnold Classic winner, is one of the greatest to grace the stage of bodybuilding competitions. Although the Sultan of Symmetry reached the pinnacle of success in bodybuilding, his career was marred by a series of health complications and a life-threatening accident. Earlier, the iconic bodybuilder appeared in an interview and touched upon his journey of trial and tribulations.

Over the years, Wheeler has undergone many surgeries after surviving a terrible car crash in 1994. Furthermore, the Sultan of Symmetry also suffers from a rare kidney disease -focal segmental glomerulosclerosis. He had to undergo leg amputation despite a kidney transplant. Although Wheeler faced adversity, his resilient approach made him an inspiring mentor to many bodybuilding hopefuls. 

Flex Wheeler asks not to give up hope and continue research

The Sultan of Symmetry appeared in an interview with Bloomble Inc., revealing details of his journey into the management of pain. The host asked Flex if he had any messages for fellow citizens dealing with an amputation or physical and mental troubles. Flex gave a very hopeful response to the question. “Just don’t give up hope, be due diligent, continue researching when you asked a doctor or surgeon a question and they give you the answer, understand that they can only answer to the ability of their knowledge, so certain knowledge is very limited on the capabilities out there,” said Wheeler.

Furthermore, the bodybuilding pro implored his listeners not to give up searching for the best remedy out there. He opined, “There’s technology that is not as evasive where you have to go and have surgeries.. ” Although the journey isgoing to seem very bleak,” he suggested doing a thorough analysis, comparing all the options out there.

The Sultan also warned people against blindly following what is on the internet. “Internet isn’t true. It just tapes anybody to type that in but just really be due diligent about to c** and just don’t don’t give up and persevere because there is hope,” added the pro bodybuilder. The three times Olympia runner-up is advising from a position of experience and authority. Although Wheeler faced a terrible crash car, he shocked everyone with his comeback within six months.

Even a fatal car accident could not stop Wheeler from pursuing his goals

In an interview with Arnold Sports Festival UK stage, in 2022, the Sultan spilled horrific details about his injury. He informed the host, saying, “It had broken me. I resorted back to my suicidal thoughts, you know. Because of the same injury I had, I broke my C5 and C6. That’s the same injury that killed Christopher Reeves. I also broke my collarbone, my ear was almost ripped off, and my eye was almost ripped out off my skull.”

However, the Sultan did not give up his bodybuilding aspirations and entered the 1995 IFBB Iron Man and won it. He achieved this marvelous feat through his undying love for the sport and determination. In the end, his kidney disease forced him to bid goodbye to the stage forever. In recent times, the wise bodybuilder has used various social media platforms to spread the message of hope and positivity.
