The passion for bodybuilding started behind bars for Yates. But he developed a resilient mindset to ace his workouts during his training journey. In a recent post, the 6x Mr. Olympia champion revealed his deeper connection with his nickname, The Shadow, given by Peter McGough.

Dorian Yates brought up the ‘Shadow-self theory’ of Carl Jung that described the aggressive, darkest, and most powerful, yet often restrained part of anybody as Shadow-self. He further revealed he resonated his mindset with this philosophy while training to the core.

Now, Baxendale came up with his views on the nickname of Yates and wrote, “it did also lead me to consider the words of Seneca (paraphrasing here),the willing are guided by destiny; the unwilling dragged by destiny.Willing that is to go to the darkest depths of Hell or Hades or the Underworld depending on your spiritual beliefs.”  Dorian Yates went to the extremities while lifting weights without limits to reveal his shadow self while training at the Temple gym during his peak. Yates once revealed how a simple technique he followed helped him improve his physique.
