Yates recently shared a series of Instagram posts showcasing pictures documenting his transformation from an innocent child to a bodybuilding icon. However, it was the caption that grabbed people’s attention. Yates’s beautifully accompanying caption encapsulated his journey and revealed the unexpected source of his inspiration. ‘The Shadow’ revealed that growing up on a small farm on the outskirts of Birmingham, he developed a deep connection with animals, particularly his first horse named ‘Shadow.’

Yates’s life also took him on a different path after his schooling years, as he found himself working in a slaughterhouse factory and on the doors of various establishments. However, at 18, things got worse for him as he had to spend a few months in prison. Yates and his friends were arrested while crossing Birmingham to get to a party. One day after the 1981 Birmingham city center riots, they claimed to have come across a partially broken shop window, where one of Yates’s friends attempted to steal a hat off of a mannequin, it had fallen, smashing the rest of the shop window in the process.
