Arnold Schwarzenegger on the correlation between genetics and lean body
In the latest edition of his newsletter Arnold’s Pump Club, Arnold Schwarzenegger addressed the question that has crossed most people’s minds at least once. The said question is, “Can Some People Eat Anything They Want?” Arnie states that everyone knows a person who eats recklessly but never gains weight. Hence, Schwarzenegger has now provided an “eye-opening” perspective on the matter.

In the newsletter, Schwarzenegger talked about a research wherein 150 people and their eating behaviors were observed to find out how they maintain their lean form. Results showed that lean people ate less and consumed 15% lesser calories than an average human. He added, “The unfair finding: they have a genetic advantage. Underweight people burn 22 percent more calories than they should for their body weight. Their genetic makeup means it’s easier for them to maintain a lower weight.”

However, Arnie states not having a genetic advantage doesn’t mean one cannot have a healthy body. Here’s when metabolism comes into play.
The magic of metabolism
Continuing with the findings of the research, Schwarzenegger revealed one’s metabolism is stable between the ages of 18 to 60. However, as one grows, one leaves behind the healthy habit and becomes fairly stationary. To facilitate healthy metabolism, the legend suggests adding resistance training a few times a week to one’s routine.

He further advised his readers to sleep 7.5 hours every night, go out on walks, and consume a protein-rich diet. Schwarzenegger claims one shouldn’t waste money on metabolism boosters as their benefits on fat loss are yet to be scientifically proven. Schwarzenegger believes a good metabolism helps one maintain a lean and healthy body irrespective of what and how much they eat.
