Mike Menzer is an uncrowned Mr Olympia and he was one of the strongest and tremendous bodybuilders during the Golden Era. His advice was followed blindly by fitness enthusiasts in his heyday and many still heed it. His ideas on stretching before a workout have always been abided by a lot of fans and for decades bodybuilders like him believed that stretching was important before lifting weights and it was a part of the warm-up before bodybuilding.

However, some people begin to differ from this and have pointed out that the warm-up stretching exercises shown by Mentzer are completely wrong.

Martin Rios recently talked about the warm-up exercise that was shown by the uncrowned Mr Olympia. In the video, Rios goes over his warm-up routine which was related to maximising muscle growth and decreasing injury risk. Rios took over the topics of static and dynamic stretching and whether it should be included in the warm-up routine.

He started the video saying, “Mike Mentzer’s warm-up routine fri** s**ks.” The voiceover of Mentzer then took over and narrated, “It is essential to warm up properly Before engaging in any physical exercise. This acts as a safeguard against possible injury.” Rios then continued, “While the dynamic stretches that were included were pretty good, doing static stretches before a workout is freaking stupid.”

According to him, many studies have shown that static stretches before a workout decreases muscle performance. However, every single fact that he gave was not flawed or wrong; Mentzer’s ideas about hydration for muscles are something that left the bodybuilding world awestruck.

According to the bodybuilding legend, “When you go lower than 60% carbohydrates on a high-intensity program, you’re going to burn the glycogen out of the muscle, not restore it.”
