50-year-old former Mr. Olympia Jay Cutler had some of the most impressive legs in bodybuilding. Even at his age, Cutler has better legs than many professional bodybuilders younger than him. So, in his latest video, the bodybuilding veteran revealed his secret to building bigger thighs. However, the man known for his quad stomp advised viewers to grow another muscle.
While you might think Cutler would tell people to do a bunch of quad-focused exercises, he told people to work on their hamstrings. The four-time Mr. Olympia said he had shredded and massive quads but weaker hamstrings. However, smaller hamstrings make the thighs look smaller, especially from the side and back, so he trained to address that weakness.
In the video, Jay Cutler advised people to implement what he had learned from his experience. Jay Cutler explained a variation of the leg press. “I’m going to put my feet higher on the platform,” said Jay Cutler. “If I was doing quads I’d focus on the lower part of the platform,” said the former Mr. Olympia. However, putting the feet on the upper part would shift the focus to the hamstrings and glutes.

The bodybuilding icon also puts his legs wider apart and does 10 to 12 reps of leg presses. “My mind is focusing 100% on my hamstrings and glutes,” Jay Cutler said. While the quadriceps muscles are bigger than the hamstrings, ignoring the latter won’t let your thighs get as big as they could. Additionally, leg presses aren’t the only movement where Cutler focuses on hamstrings.
The three-time Arnold Classic champion also explained that he focused on the hamstring and glute tie-in while doing lunges. Hence, putting equal effort into growing your hamstrings as well as your quads is the secret to bigger thighs. However, this isn’t the only muscle group that Cutler advised people to train from all angles.

Jay Cutler revealed how to build rounded delts
Another common weakness in many bodybuilders is rounded deltoid muscles. While most bodybuilders have massive front delts, many lack the rounded look because their rear deltoids are underdeveloped. So Jay Cutler recommended three exercises to grow bold shoulders. The four-time champion advised people to start with the rear cable crossover, a rear delt-focused movement.
Then also told people to do “bent over lateral raises,” for further rear delt development. Finally, the third and final exercise he recommends focuses on the later delts. Jay Cutler told people to perform “seated side lateral raises.” The bodybuilding veteran said if someone wanted to build round shoulders, they should focus on these three movements instead of over-training their front delts.
