The sport of bodybuilding is certainly not for the faint-hearted. It requires a lot of sacrifices from the athlete’s end, who often has to give up on their social life while being prepped. While many bodybuilders have discussed the mental challenges that they face during prep, the pressure becomes even more difficult to handle when you are already a four-time Classis Physique champion like Chris Bumstead. Currently reigning the Classic Physique, Chris Bumstead is looking forward to adding a fifth Olympia title under his belt. As he is getting ready for the show, he opens up about the mental barriers that he is facing while being on this year’s prep.

Sharing a mental health update, he stated, “A fun little time at the end of prep but an exhausting time. F**king Groundhog Day. I go to bed, I’m like too tired to brush my teeth, I wake up and I’m like, “All right let’s do this again,” But it’s fun. Very enjoyable, very enjoyable, very rewarding.”

He continued the video further by talking about his training style in the last few days of prep. Let’s take a look at how a champion trains before stepping on the stage.

Even though the sport of bodybuilding heavily relies on training until failure by pushing in some extra reps, the last few days of prep can be exhausting for an athlete. Talking along the same lines, Chris Bumstead revealed in the video that even though he’s training hard, he’s avoiding any extra forced reps to ensure he stays injury-free.

“But today’s back day…Kick my ass with these workouts but two weeks out, don’t really need to be killing in the forced reps right now…Now we’re just going to be pushing hard still, a little bit less forced reps, still going to failure, doing what I can.” Chris Bumstead revealed in the video.
