Age is indeed just a number if an individual is passionate about fitness and bodybuilding. While there is no denying that the human body becomes fragile and weaker as a person ages, the limitations are often set in our minds by our own selves. There are multiple instances where people in old age have proven their mettle. One such individual who continues to lift iron even at 94 is Mavis Mannall, who has been working out for the last two decades now.

Often referred to as ‘Granny’ lovingly by people, she continues to inspire countless individuals through her journey and is a living example that with willpower, one can achieve almost anything.

The inspiring story of Mavis Mannall

Mavis Mannall in an interview with 1News, revealed that she has been an active person since her teenage years. Being the captain of her basketball team, as well as being a swimmer in the past, lifting enables her to feel relieved of every stress in life as she cherishes working out. “My favorite thing is that when you walk through that door, you feel like you’ve come home,” Mannall said. “Everybody is lovely.” Working out at Ignite Fitness for the past seven years, Mannall is a very reputed figure in her gym because of the dedication and discipline she shows when it comes to lifting.

Mannall trains six times a week and is a very disciplined person when it comes to training. Two years ago, she had to quit driving because of weak eyesight; however, this could not stop her from lifting. Talking about her, a fellow lifter of her gym stated, “She’s such an inspiration. You know we look at her and go, ‘I can’t do half the things she does’, but you know it just inspires you to keep going.” Another member of her gym revealed, “She is pretty much the matriarch of the gym.”

How does Mannall train at the age of 94?

Training can vary a lot depending on the age of an individual. While a young individual can easily manage to lift heavy weights, an older individual has a much more fragile body, making their training intensity altered accordingly. Giving insights about the same, her trainer and gym manager, Eddie Kerrigan, reveals that he specifically makes the required adjustments to her workout to ensure her safety.

“I am encouraging people to look after themselves throughout their whole life, and so she started, and she hasn’t stopped. She wants more,” Kerrigan said. “If she sees someone doing something, she’ll want to do it. So I have to just tailor it down a bit. Just to make sure she can do it,” her trainer revealed.
