Bodybuilding veteran Mike O’Hearn, who still looks youthful at the age of 54, has shed light on the importance of nurturing the body and warming up properly before engaging in any form of exercise.

Citing the reason behind warm-ups, O’Hearn emphasized that this was actually done to find out whether the body and the joints were working fine. According to the former Mr. Universe winner, it is important to self-check the body before starting any exercise. O’Hearn also had some tips regarding a certain exercise that could help with this.

Taking to YouTube, the 54-year-old talked about his main objective of doing warm-ups. He said that it was not just merely to do a warm but the main purpose of not directly going to any exercise was to “self-check the body and the joints and the ligaments and anything hurting or out of position.”

Primarily speaking, he pointed out that as people age and go towards 30, there are certain exercises such as the reverse curls that become tough. However, it is that very exercise that will help in diagnosing pain. The body goes through a lot of harshness every single day and that is why it is extremely important to check the joints and whether anything else is hurting in the body before the main exercise starts. “There are so many things that happen when you do reverse (curls) that you could self-diagnose any possible future injury,” the legend said while emphasizing reverse curls as a way to self-diagnose injuries.

According to O’Hearn, one should be mentally conscious of whether the body is comfortable with the said workout or is hurting. This is a trick that the veteran has been following for 25 years. This is not the first time that O’Hearn has talked about warm-ups. He had previously talked about the warmup routine that helps him have a warrior-like physique.

The 4-time Mr Universe earlier explained why he does 30 reps of warm-ups and how he keeps it short for a particular day whenever he has other engagements like shooting. The first exercise that he explained was an inclined warm-up to get the nervous system pumped up. “Warming up the nervous system solely just to get some kind of pressure on the body. Open up the shoulder. Now we’re going to start the workout,” he explained.

After that, the Titan explained the reason why he did that warm up and it was because he was ‘dried out’ and was getting ready for a shoot the next day, so he needed to keep it light. But what was a ‘mild’ warmup for O’Hearn, turned out to be extreme for his training partner. “That wasn’t a fu**** warm-up. I mean, I’d never trained like this,” O’Hearn’s partner exclaimed.
