It is common knowledge that the?bodybuilding world cannot do without supplements, protein shakes, and a pinch of PEDs along with the most important ingredient: weight training. Bodybuilders have always consumed some or the other form of supplements so that it acts as a catalyst for their muscle building. The Golden Era of bodybuilding, which was graced with the likes of Arnold Schwarzenegger or Flex Wheeler, did not have supplements.

Now, in the 21st century, gym equipment has increased and so has the supplement and protein shake industry. The bodybuilding world has adapted to these changes and veterans advocate for the use of protein supplements. Recently Pedro Aguilar shared a throwback video of a Muscleegg protein shake ad where iconic bodybuilders gather. He tagged Mike O?Hearn, who reshared it with the captions, “How much do you love protein?”. But this also raises the question of whether Rich Piana, Mike?s friend, was right about the protein shake industry, lying to consumers.

Most bodybuilders do have their own supplements and protein shake lines, and advertise the positive aspects of consuming them. The late Rich Piana, who had once exposed the protein industry, also had his own company named ?5% Nutrition?. However, Piana has also slammed the protein shake industry. Even Kali Muscle, who was in the ?Muscleegg? advertisement, has slammed the protein shake industry. Mike had worked out with Rich Piana in the past, and Piana shared the video on his YouTube channel. Even though they had amazing camaraderie, their opinions might differ when it comes to the protein shake industry.

?When you read the label, it says 24 g of protein. That number is determined by the nitrogen balance in the product and there are other things you can add to the product to bring up the nitrogen balance,? Rich said. According to him, this means that the protein number would show higher when in reality it is not so. The products do not contain more protein, it is just an illusion that it does.

The companies were not delivering what they promised on the labels, and that made Piana frustrated. ?It?s simple things like this that people just do not? They?re not educated, they don?t understand. No one puts us out there because it?s a f**king multi-billion-dollar business,? the late bodybuilder had said.
