4x Mr. Olympia Classic Physique Chris Bumstead had had it tough on his bodybuilding journey. However, the Canadian bodybuilder refuses to back down in the face of adversity. No matter how bogged down he gets, Bumstead’s never say die attitude inspires many in the modern bodybuilding community.
Earlier in an interview on Social Media, Bumstead bares his soul on the challenges he faced while preparing for his competition. He discussed a difficult situation before the Mr. Olympia competition that highlighted the value of a support system. The bodybuilder’s partner found him crying on the bathroom floor. Bumstead gives the details as it occurred.

The interview hosted by Chris Williamson touches upon a lot of personal topics. Titled “Chris Bumstead – The Mindset & Motivation Secrets Of 4X Mr Olympia (4K) | Modern Wisdom 652” explores the psyche of the modern-age bodybuilder. The probing interviewer asked a question to Bumstead that elicited some insightful replies from the Canadian pro. Williamson asked. “….. six weeks out from the Olympia you were on the bathroom floor crying. Can you take me through the story of that day?”
The athlete quickly admitted that preparing for Mr. Olympia, family issues, his health, and the move to Florida caused him anxiety. The pro bodybuilder is especially wary of his health, having suffered from IGA Nephropathy–an autoimmune kidney disorder in 2018.
Talking about his partner, Chris mentioned, “I was like in the bathroom she came in like are you okay? I’m like yeah. She asked me one more time. She’s like, are you like look at me are you okay and I just started bawling. And I had no idea I didn’t know I was that stressed out. I just was like numb and I just started bawling like hit the floor. I was just sobbing. I was like I just feel like the world’s crashing .”

Bumstead says men can’t show emotions
However, the honesty between the partners was a breakthrough moment for Chris, both in his relationship and career. Chris Bumstead makes a poignant remark in saying “…no men know how to talk about their emotions properly…”Men and bodybuilders, in particular, are seen as the pinnacle of strength and masculinity. Society condemns any sign of emotion as weakness.
Moreover, Bumstead drives an important point home by saying that men who have to shoulder responsibilities are not alone. He said, “….. men who feel like they have to provide and like the world is on their shoulders, they don’t understand that like their wife and their family wants to help them…”

To sum up, the bodybuilder also used to feel the same, but through an empathetic relationship, understood that bearing one’s soul is not a burden to the family. In fact, it is important to take about one’s issues. Bumstead’s transparency will inspire the present cohort of bodybuilders to open up.
