Recently, the IFBB Pro Coach Greg Doucette shared such an incident on his official Instagram account. In the video, a youngster was seen lifting heavy while doing squats and failing majorly. While he was definitely engaged in ego-lifting, the video showed how dangerous the attempt was.

The video showed the youngster lifting heavy weights on his shoulders to complete his squat in a bad form. While he did have a spotter with him, when the tables turned, the spotter could not do anything. It was the safety bars that saved the kid’s life; without them, he could have snapped his neck.

Doucette captioned the video “What are we teaching kids?” showcasing how worried he was about the new generation focusing on ego lifting and neglecting their form and basic fundamentals for lifting heavy. Building your fundamentals with good form from the core is very important to reduce the chances of getting injured.
The IFBB Pro bashed the gyumgoer and further wrote,” If you’re going to ego lift in the gym, at least set the safety bars high enough so that you don’t fall 2 feet before saving you!” He emphasized the use of proper safety measures while you’re exercising. It wasn’t just Doucette that criticized the youngster. He also faced backlash from the bodybuilding community for such a foolish act.

One bodybuilding enthusiast commented on how the spotter was in fact helpless and wrote, “Realistically what was the spotter going to do.” Another bodybuilding fan remarked on the boy’s failure and said, “He is failing harder than last time.” Another fitness enthusiast had a comment that summed up the whole scenario. “First wrong running shoes, second huge weight he can’t lift(ego lifting), spotter doesn’t know how to do his job,” they wrote.
