It is the dream of every gymgoer to maximize their muscle growth, and in pursuit of this, they follow any advice available to them. But this doesn’t always mean that you get the right results. Sometimes the wrong advice can even lead to life-threatening injuries. However, if you are one of those struggling to improve your muscle growth, PhD holder, Dr. Mike Israetel, is here to save the day.
The Exercise Scientist is known for sharing such valuable advice on his social media handles. Now, he has uploaded a short video addressing how to properly maximize muscle size. While the technique included pushing one’s limits, Israetel also explained what it actually entailed.

In the YouTube short, the Exercise Scientist stated that “you can maximize most cases of muscle growth by pushing the muscle really, really hard.” According to him, this meant making the muscle tired and weaker than it normally is. You can make this happen by doing “delayed onset,” he said. Israetel wants you to wait till your “muscle roughly heals until you’re no longer sore”. Then, he wants you to “hit it again“.
The bodybuilding critic emphasized, “You get tired; you get sore when you heal; hit it again. That’s the rule.” “However much you could stuff into that and no more is probably going to be close to your maximum local ability to grow the muscle,” he elaborated.
To showcase how this actually worked, Dr. Mike took the example of doing a whole-body program along with side delts. He mentioned that side delts can make you weak for a few hours or a day, but you don’t need two or three days to recover. “So is it true to say that you’re actually training enough to fill up through a local recovery? Cap? No, not even close,” he said.

Helping his followers, Israetel had also shared a phenomenon you should stay away from to maintain your gains.
A phenomenon from the fitness realm that gets on Dr. Mike’s nerves
In another short video on Instagram, the Exercise Scientist shared his views on the maingaining phenomenon. Dr. Mike said, “If you’re gaining a pound of muscle a year, f**k, there’s a very good chance that won’t happen.” “If I had only done this earlier and purposefully tried to gain weight and didn’t fall for the main gaining or gain training, then I would have not f**king spined my wheels as much,” he revealed.

Maingaining is a common practice performed in the fitness realm. In this way, you need to maintain your body fat percentage, and Dr. Mike is strictly against using this phenomenon. Instead of wasting your time following this, he believes that you can opt for a good and healthy lifestyle. The bodybuilding critic recommends going for traditional hypertrophy to optimize muscle growth.
