Dr. Mike Israetel emphasizes the “process goal”

Israetel explained how motivation is often considered as a “pull towards a goal.” According to him, without a goal, people would always lose their motivation to do something. He further explained the existence of a process goal and an outcome goal. And if people want to succeed, they must opt for the former. “A process goal instead of an outcome goal. That’s a big deal. If you’re goalless, if you’re going to the gym for some very general construct like get fit or have abs or something you haven’t really quantified in any way at all or really contextualized, it’s easy to be like eh… it’s like you have to be able to answer the question in your head.”

Moreover, he also talked about how people can build motivation by simply having a gym close by rather than one further away, which makes every trip sound like a hassle. “You don’t want to have a big barrier to entry, training partners help a lot,”  he added. Israetel also asked people to add their favorite exercises in their routines as this would give them more determination to be consistent.

However, these were not the only ways one can have motivation. Mike Israetel revealed how passion has a greater role to play when one should require the motivation to do something.
