Age plays a crucial role in everyone’s life. As we get older, we tend to avoid working out due to the risk of getting injured in the gym. But the 54-year-old four-time Mr. Universe, Mike O’Hearn, is back with his insights to save you from getting injured in the gym.
O’Hearn uploaded a video on his YouTube channel where he was seen having a leg day with his training partners at the Gold’s gym, performing leg presses. Let us see how he recommended that people stay away from injury as they grow older.

“You’re already caving in in your 30s. What’s it going to be like when you’re 50?” The Titan highlighted how people in their 30s have bent knees. He continued and said that people only go through the motions and do not pay any attention to the structure or weak points of their bodies. According to O’Hearn not paying attention to one’s form and not taking care of the weak areas is what leads to injuries.
“Everybody, as we age, starts to collapse, and I need it up and open and stronger rear delts, stronger quads, and stronger knees,” says the four-time Mr. Univserse. However, his training partner had an important question. “How do you notice that behind me? I see that, but if I’m working out by myself, how do I indicate?” To which the Titan replied and advised everyone who worked by themselves to film their reps and be 100% serious about themselves.
“My knees are bending in here; I could see the pressure in the shoulder during this exercise,” O’Hearn used himself as an example of focusing on the details while working out. “So it’s just those little details of the game film; watch it over and over and be honest with yourself,” the Titan concluded. This is how he stays away from injuries: by maintaining proper form and constantly tracking his performance.
The Titan’s advice on filming while performing a workout not only keeps you injury-free but also ensures longevity and has its benefits.

“I was filming before the internet. My dad would go and film my squats,” O’Hearn had earlier said while sharing how his dad used to film his squats with VHS cameras. Continuing, he explained that he needed to hit the depths while performing heavy squats, which he could do after reviewing the footage.
Overworking a certain muscle in the gym because the other muscle isn’t strong enough leads to injuries and damages longevity. O’Hearn made such adjustments after going through the footage that was shot.
