After competing for over a decade, Shaw gave his final performance in the 2023 World’s Strongest Man competition, where he finished 7th overall. Just like any other athlete out there, Shaw would have liked to be on the winning side in his last attempt. Yet, the legendary strongman embraced the outcome and made fans emotional with his heartfelt farewell speech. 

Having spent his sweat and blood in the rigorous sport for more than 10 years, the 41-year-old bid farewell to the WSM and poured out his heart while addressing his fans and fellow competitors.

In his farewell speech, Shaw spoke candidly about how fortunate he felt to have the opportunity of participating in the sport. He also applauded his followers, who have supported him consistently over the course of his career. Shaw added that without their help, he wouldn’t have been able to accomplish nearly as much as he has.

The 4x WSM champion acknowledged that he wanted this moment to be different but also revealed how he had learned to embrace the uncertainty of life. “I envisioned this moment Being different but you know what I have given everything that I possibly could “. While preparing for his last appearance Shaw faced many challenges including the dangerous leg infection that took him to the hospital for 8 days.  

Shaw recounted that it was actually the tough moments that helped him to become a better person. “I have battled a lot of adversity in my career to get to this point”, he said in his speech.  In the end, the legend hoped that his journey would encourage people to stay positive and to keep pushing, even when things are difficult.

Shaw’s farewell speech was an emotionally tough moment for many fans who have followed his journey throughout the years. The legend has given many iconic moments to the fan community and seeing him walking away from the stage was a tough pill to digest for every fan.  Even his fellow strongmen stars acknowledged his contribution to the sport.

With his exceptional strength and kind-hearted nature, Brian Shaw made some really great friends like Eddie Hall who have also expressed their love and gratitude as the legendary retired. Hall posted a video on his Instagram account and wrote, “And Farewell @shawstrength we all gonna miss you”.

Shaw’s career as a strongman has had many iconic moments. The legend has won the competition four times in 2011, 2013, 2015, and 2016. Although he was not able to end his career with the fifth win, his legacy will remain intact forever.
