Cuban IFBB Pro bodybuilder and fitness coach, Emmanuel Alvarez shared a few stories on his Instagram. He was in the hospital bed, all set to get into an open heart surgery. This caused curiosity and concern among the fitness community, and they wanted to know what happened to him.
While he was unable to answer their questions right away, he stated that he would soon elaborate on why he had to go through the surgery. Hours after the surgery went successfully, Alvarez finally unraveled why he won’t be competing anytime soon and has been irregular with his social media.
Alvarez diagnosed with a Bicuspid valved heart

Emmanuel Alvarez recently took to his official Instagram account and shared why he had to go through the surgery. He stated that he was born with a condition called the bicuspid valve, instead of a tricuspid one. People born like that have to go through surgery later in life to replace it. However, his condition was worse because he was into bodybuilding.

He wrote, “But because of my bodybuilding lifestyle, it sped up the severity of my issue. It needs to be replaced now.” Four years ago he started feeling sick and was dragged into the emergency room to get it checked. It was then that the doctors discovered this heart issue and also told him that if he didn’t stop bodybuilding, he could die.

However, he didn’t stop pursuing his passion. He said, “I had started to feel symptoms where my memory was suffering, a lot of brain fog, extreme fatigue, my strength has declined way too much and a lot of other things that I didn’t realize were due to my heart not functioning properly.” But he still decided to go on until one day he got the call to get checked. As revealed by him, Emmanuel Alvarez was not planning on getting his heart condition checked until his girlfriend pulled out a Tarpor card when they were in Sedona. It was after that, as he said, “looked right at me and told me I had to go get my heart checked and not to ignore it.” He then made an appointment the next day.

After the visit, he discovered that his valve was failing and he was getting the same amount of blood to his body as a 12-year-old. He was then told that if he did not go through the replacement surgery, he would have only two more years left in his life. After that, he started taking it very seriously. However, this cannot alter his passion for bodybuilding and he plans to come back bigger and better by next year.
