The renowned IFBB pro coach Hany Rambod with 24 Mr. Olympia titles under his belt recently dropped some tips for bodybuilding enthusiasts aiming to ace their back exercises. To explain his points, he collaborated with fitness sensation Axel Martinez. In an instructional video series on his YouTube channel, Rambod dissected the nuances of two key moves: The seated lat pulldown and the one-arm dumbbell row.

In the first clip, titled, “Axel Martinez Throwback,” Rambod emphasizes the importance of maintaining a neutral grip. As per the pro-creator, during the seated lat pulldown, ensure a full stretch of the lats with each repetition. “You slightly feel different when it comes to the lat contraction. Stretch, stretch, stretch. You still stretch. It doesn’t matter which grip. You want to be able to stretch all the way,” he instructs. His directives highlighted the significance of maximizing the range of motion for optimal muscle engagement.

Furthermore, demonstrating impeccable form, Martinez executes the exercise under Rambod’s guidance, showcasing controlled movements and a deliberate focus on contraction. Rambod’s insight reveals that true strength lies not in the weight lifted but in the precision of each rep, eschewing momentum for controlled tempo.

In another video, transitioning to the one-arm dumbbell row, Rambod fine-tunes Martinez’s technique, redirecting the movement to target effectively. Encouraging Martinez to bring the dumbbell higher towards the oblique region, Rambod emphasizes the importance of achieving a deeper stretch and contraction for superior muscle activation.

With subtle adjustments and expert guidance, Martinez refines his execution, eliciting praise from Rambod for his mastery of the movement. “It’s not about the weight lifted,” he reiterates, “but the mindful execution of each repetition,” says the coach.  Throughout the instructional session, Rambod’s coaching philosophy shines, emphasizing the value of form over brute force.

Hany Rambod’s expert guidance to sculpt shoulders

Earlier, Rambod demonstrated shoulder exercises featuring the five-time Mr. Olympia Chris Bumstead. They shared a killer shoulder exercise: Front raises using a spider bench. But here’s the trick—it’s all about the technique. The coach stressed precision, saying no to swinging and encouraging a brief pause at the top of each lift.

This helps in owning the weight and avoiding momentum. By doing this, you keep your front delts under tension for longer, which is crucial for gains. These front delts create an impressive gap between your chest and shoulders, giving you a strong front pose.
