Ronnie Coleman was a dominant force during his prime. The Louisiana native climbed the top of the bodybuilding mountain and set a benchmark for all who came after him. The eight-time Mr. Olympia, however, ignored his injuries until it was too late. After retiring, the bodybuilding legend had to go through numerous surgeries to fix his spine, hips, and other joints. The invasive procedures resulted in near complete loss of mobility in the lower body and constant pain. It seems, nevertheless, some respite may be on the way for Coleman.

The former Arnold Classic winner began a radical new treatment called stem cell therapy. The novel therapy has been a topic of debate in the medical sphere. In 2019 the FDA warned against it due to a lack of concrete evidence. Yet athletes and bodybuilders like Ronnie Coleman have found it beneficial. In an interview, Coleman gave an update on his current condition.

At the beginning of his conversation with Ron Harris, the eight-time Mr. Olympia dropped an update on his health. Harris recalled seeing Coleman visit the stem cell therapy clinic in Mexico and asked about his current state. “So what’s your mobility like? What’s your pain levels like now?” Harris asked the former champion bodybuilder.

“Well, that’s why I was going there because my pain was real high,” responded Coleman. The pain became so bad that the 59-year-old couldn’t sleep at night. “I go there every like four months. It uh pretty much alleviates all my pain,” added the bodybuilding legend. While this sounded like a positive update, not all aspects of his health have improved with the therapy.

After the debilitating surgeries, Coleman can’t walk without crutches. “Are you walking better?” asked Ron Harris. However, the former Mr. Universe didn’t have anything positive to say about his mobility. “I’m still on the crutches pretty good… My walking is about the same,” he told the Muscular Development magazine reporter. Coleman, however, is not giving up on his mobility and shared some hopeful news.

The quest to regain his health is far from over

During the interview, the bodybuilding legend talked about what’s in store for him in the near future. The 59-year-old revealed his stem cell therapy doctor speculated some nerves might regenerate. While that is yet to happen, Coleman has been in contact with a chiropractor, who says he can help.

The former mass monster revealed that after undergoing over 13 back surgeries and a hip replacement, certain muscles have been deactivated. “He knows a way to uh help me activate those,” said Coleman. However, the sessions will start in August. Ronnie Coleman is hopeful his mobility will improve after working with the chiropractor, but only time will tell how things turn out.
