The bodybuilding champion who is also known as The Shadow as he’s worked the hardest and the most rigorous exercises during his competition days and he still keeps his body healthy even at the age of 64. The bodybuilding legend who won Mr Olympia six times in a row has nothing else as his passion other than the sport.

He recently shared words of wisdom on how to be compete with yourself and make progress every single day. This video and the caption along with it will help youngsters who are aiming to become bodybuilders.

Dorian Yates spills the beans on progressive overload

The video showcases the mass monster talking about how he coaches people and what they tell him. He narrated the fact that an individual comes up to him after training for one month and might say that they have gained more muscle and have bulked up which is exactly what is expected from a workout according to Yates.

He then proceeds to say that if the workout and the continuous routine done for one month do not show any substantial results, then there is no use in continuing it for the next month because it will be a waste of time. According to him, progressive overload is the best way to see actual improvement in the physique. Increasing the exercise load and the weights gradually rather than drastically can help in gaining muscles. He suggested, “I suggest you review your workout plan and write down the numbers you’re hitting. Use this as a base and each week aim to beat it.”

He also suggests that if an individual is not making any progress on a routine and they are doing the same thing each month then it is a waste of time. In this case, HIT followed by a light recovery phase of 2 weeks is the best way to have insane results. He also emphasises that not only are calculated steps in physical exercises important but mental exercise is also important.

Dorian Yates talks about the importance of mental health and exercise

On the official Instagram account of DY Nutrition, they uploaded a video of Dorian Yates where the legend talked about why people need to exercise even if it is a minimum amount of effort.

He noted that exercise helps people stay fit physically as well as mentally. Dorian Yates said, “When you go to the gym, you release chemicals in your brain that make you feel better. So, I think it’s an essential part of overall health. Physical and mental. That’s why I’m a big advocate of any exercise that works for you and you like it. Of Course, I’m a bodybuilder, that’s my background, but I think it’s important to get out there and do some kind of exercise.”
