Injury is the saddest part of Bodybuilding and sooner or later, a muscular man is bound to go through this due to various reasons. For some, it is a setback that prevents them from progressing, and for some, it’s an opportunity that allows them to do something beyond one’s imagination. Dorian Yates, the mass monster, took his Bicep injury as an opportunity though his style of doing barbell row is changed. 

Talking about past accomplishments of Dorian, he won Mr. Olympia 6 times and at that time he was at the peak of his Bodybuilding career. He made a huge fan following and won various competitions. However, he went through ups and downs in his career.

Dorian’s Bicep Injury Brings Modification In His Style of Barbell Row

In a recent Instagram post, Dorian shared a video of a seminar he did in Canada, back in 2016. In the video, he is demonstrating how to do the barbell row. This 6-time Mr. Olympia gave priority to Barbell row during his bodybuilding career. Dorian posted a video with the caption “For most of my training years, I did perform them with an underhand grip but due to my bicep injury, I switched to an overhand grip which was just as good.”

Explaining how to do proper Barbell row, he said, “Traditional barbell rows were done with the body parallel to the floor and pulling the bar to your chest, my style, which became known as the ‘Yates Row’, is performed with a body more upright which puts the lower back in a safer position and the lats in a mechanically stronger position”.

Think of your hands as hooks and you should be rowing with your elbows and driving through to your lats. Also, in order to get a full contraction of the lats, the spine needs to be slightly arched”, He further added. Dorian Yates opened up about a devastating moment in his career.

Devastating Moment In Dorian’s Life

Dorian Yates won the Mr. Olympia title from 1992 to 1997 and in between these years, he suffered from one of the biggest challenges of his life “injury”. And around six weeks before the 1994 Mr. Olympia championship, a tragedy occurred in the form of a bicep tear. The reason behind this was not clear and Dorian admitted and went through the injury.
