Dorian Yates, the trailblazing?bodybuilding star from the UK, ushered in the mass monster era into the industry. He was the main pioneer for bringing massive muscular size and conditioning into the world of fitness. Yates was the researcher in his gym, which was his inventory. He read all the literature available on making the perfect muscles while putting his own twist on the techniques. He introduced the world to High-Intensity Training or HIT methods inspired by Mike Mentzer and Arthur Jones.?

The 6 time?Mr Olympia?never went by the rules and even disregarded some techniques used by veterans like?Arnold Schwarzenegger?and Ronnie Coleman. For instance, he disagreed with Coleman?s mind-boggling deadlift approach and took a different road to deadlift.?

Ronnie Coleman won 8 Mr. Olympia due to his sheer dedication and hard work in the sport. He was known for having a heavy workout with 800 lbs deadlift and squat incorporated into his regime. However, the pressure of the 800-pound squat took a toll on Coleman?s back and damaged it permanently.

The Shadow who liked to live away from the hustle and bustle, would swiftly take over competitions and win titles. The English bodybuilder had an upper hand against other contenders due to his unique methods of trial and error to find what best suited his training. This led him to devise a different way of dead lifting that would not destroy his back. He took to Instagram and demonstrated the tactic.

While a throwback video of Yates displayed his training method, he narrated his tactic regarding Partial Deadlifts. Yates wrote in the caption, ?One major distinguishing exercise selection that I made early on was to perform deadlifts last on a back day.? His idea was to put deadlifts at the last part of his workout so that the strain on his muscles was lesser, which would protect him from any long-term injury.?

Yates further noted, ?My back was completely exhausted by this point. After Nautilus pullovers, pulldowns, barbell rows, machine rows, and rear delts, it was time for partial deadlifts.? He explained what he was doing in the video, saying, ?The important thing to stress here is that we didn?t touch the floor whilst doing the set. This meant that the back was under tension from the first rep to the last, negating the leg involvement, maximizing the back muscles, spinal erectors, and lats all the way up to the traps!?

Finally, he advised young bodybuilders to try out his method and monitor the changes in their physique. Dorian Yates did not believe in many strategies executed by Arnold Schwarzenegger and Coleman which made him stand out.?

In a video posted by Masterthegym on Instagram, The Shadow recollected his unique training methods. It was in stark contrast to the classical era of bodybuilding. Yates said, ?Everybody was training six days a week and 20 sets and all this stuff from the Arnold era, and it didn?t make sense to me. I read Arthur Jones?s writings, who?s the guy that built the Nautilus machines? and Mike Mentzer, of course, carried on that high-intensity training.?

Furthermore, he used the feedback mechanism to understand what was feasable for his body. The elusive Shadow observed that his conditioning dipped if he used the old methods. The IFBB pro said, ?The key to stimulating muscle growth is the intensity of the exercise.? Yates only worked out four days a week for an hour for Olympia preparations. In contrast, Arnold trained for five hours per day! However, fans appreciated both physiques since they brought diversity into the industry.
