Being born after World War II in Austria, Schwarzenegger’s childhood was filled with trauma and difficulties. Lacking even the most basic necessities like food and electricity, the Schwarzenegger family made sure to work hard and make a living out of the bare minimum resources available. Learning from his childhood experiences, Schwarzenegger understands the importance of hard work and resilience.
Suggesting the new generation to walk on the same path as their ancestors did, Schwarzenegger started, “Don’t start creating a generation of wimps and weak people and stuff like that, where we go into being concerned about “how are you feeling today,” “oh I don’t want to hurt your feelings.”” Clearing his point, he added, “It’s nice to be considerate; yes, I totally agree with that. But let’s not overbaby the kids. Let’s go and teach kids to be tough.”

Schwarzenegger revealed recently, in several interviews, his parenting methods. He disclosed that, despite several warnings, his kids did not follow simple instructions like making their own bed or keeping the house clean at times. However, Arnold made sure to teach them a lesson. Every time one of them left a light switch open, Schwarzenegger would remove the light bulb as a punishment. He also revealed how he once burned Katherine’s tennis shoes to teach her a lesson.
Schwarzenegger revealed that Katherine would often leave her tennis shoes by the fireplace, so to make her understand her mistake, Arnold once threw her shoes in the fireplace. Whenever Katherine visits Arnold with her daughter, she tells this story and asks her daughter Lyla not to repeat the mistake that her mother made. Describing what Katherine generally says, Arnold stated, “Because you know what Daddy did? When I left my shoes there twice? The third time, he burned them in front of me and I cried.’”
