As per the study, “self-selecting rest intervals instead of following strict time guidelines led to great results.” Furthermore, “the findings show that if you know a workout’s goal and know how to take breaks between sets, it’s OK to rest intuitively,” stated the veteran bodybuilder.

The study compared self-selected rests, 10-second and 30-second intervals. The 30-second recovery period burned more calories, but other than that, there were no major differences. “If you need a little more rest, don’t overthink it. Train hard, break as needed, and then push hard on the next set,” suggested the Pumping Iron actor. Rest is an inextricable part of health, be it between sets or overall well-being.
