Tony Pearson, also known as the Michael Jackson of bodybuilding is one of the greatest bodybuilders of all time. Being mentored by Arnold Schwarzenegger, he came a long way from, as the legend described, being a skinny black kid training at the weight pit on Venice Beach to one of the most significant figures in the realms of bodybuilding.

Tony Pearson’s competition mostly belonged to the individual or the couple’s category. He is widely regarded for his immensely muscular physique and was also featured in the first edition of Schwarzenegger’s book. Despite not getting the fame that he deserves, a lot of hardcore fitness fans still look up to the American bodybuilder for advice. Recently, he gave an invaluable insight into the bodybuilding community.

Tony Pearson gives tips for building muscles

Tony Pearson recently appeared in one of the interviews for Escape Fitness and the video was posted on their official YouTube channel. He was seen talking about the key tips of retaining and gaining muscles. When asked what he feels about doing leg presses. He said, Leg press is really good. I stopped like personally because my guy advised me to because my back was a mess at the end so I haven’t.”

According to Pearson, it is better to focus more on the reps rather than going heavier on weights doing lesser reps. It is the continuous engagement of the muscles during an exercise that helps in the process of growth. He added, “But when your leg press, the same thing. Don’t lock out and you don’t need a thousand pounds to build the legs, you just don’t. It’s all show.”

In the entire video, where he is talking about growth, Tony Pearson primarily focuses on one of the most important things that must be avoided during the workout, but, is very common among the bodybuilders, which is locking out.

Tony Pearson suggests avoiding locking out between reps

Tony Pearson goes about saying that in order to retain the size of his legs, he often uses a lot of reps in a set and a lot fewer weights, but the most important thing that he focuses on is avoiding the lockout. He says, “This is so important guys. Stop locking out.”

He further goes on to say that whenever he sees athletes perform their exercises on social media, most of them lock out in between reps. He emphasizes having continuous tension in the muscle, which helps it grow. And he says, “If you apply that, you’re gonna grow ten times faster.” What do you think about Tony Pearson’s advice?
