Bodybuilder turned Hollywood star, Arnold Schwarzenegger’s unique personality is what charted his path to lifelong glory. Hailing from a humble background in Austria, the pro had learned life lessons the hard way. Even his long battle with a concerning heart condition and numerous surgeries couldn’t dim his sparkle. Therefore, it has been the deciding factor in his life, that is, being tough and strong-willed. Talking to ‘The Hollywood Reporter’ on Tuesday, he revealed what still keeps him going as he nears senescence. 

The actor claimed that he looks forward to discomfort and hardships since it makes one stronger. Moreover, on days when he feels low and unwilling, he shuts down his feelings and simply gets to work.

As mentioned in the interview, the 75-year-old former athlete bluntly stated that dealing with struggles has not been an issue for him, it is one of the “rules of life.” He was asked that even though he’s at peace now, what really affects his composure? He referenced his 3-day visit to the high-altitude Aspen for skiing, which entirely tires him out, and said, “Because it’s tough to do, especially at my age.”

Schwarzenegger with his go-getter attitude, has managed to ace varying disciplines in his life, from bodybuilding to politics. However, he disclosed a surprising element of his persona. The IFBB pro shared that he deems his feelings as “irrelevant.” Feeling low or sad is not a problem for the star, as he promptly gets back into action. “I don’t give a fu** how I feel. What I care about is: What can I do to make it better?” the 6’2” pro said in the interview

Basically, feeling “sh**ty” doesn’t match his intentions, thus, even when he does, he diverts himself by feeding his pets or riding out on his bike. Another intriguing reference was to the nation’s leaders. The Austrian Oak asserted that the country was built by hard-working people, those who did not worry about their feelings. Feeling good is not an option, hence, the icon advised, “Just swallow it. If you feel shi**y, don’t think, just do things.” Similarly, he revealed another precious bit of advice shared by his initial mentor. 

Arnold Schwarzenegger prioritized the mind

A previous edition of the newsletter, Arnold’s Pump Club, disclosed how the star athlete mapped out his life’s ambitions. Idolizing bodybuilder turned actor, Reg Park, Schwarzenegger knew that this is what he was meant to do. Therefore, looking up to Park’s life as his blueprint, he stepped into his bodybuilding journey. There, he met his foremost mentor, Fredi Gerstl.

The father of his co-trainee, coached and helped him train at the Graz Weightlifting Club. However, a particular piece of advice by him stuck with Schwarzenegger throughout his life. “He told us that an injury could end our athletic careers, but no one could ever take our minds, so we better be curious and hungry to always learn,” Schwarzenegger recalled.
