In the world of fitness and supplementation, a recurring question persists: “Does Creatine Cause Hair Loss?” It’s a valid concern, especially considering the rumors that have circulated over the years. However, the legendary bodybuilder and a crusader of fitness, Arnold Schwarzenegger has weighed in on the matter now.

In his latest newsletter, he highlighted and answered a query from a ‘Village’ member about the misconception surrounding creatine and its supposed side effect of hair loss. He shed light on the truth behind creatine. He acknowledged the past stigma attached to this supplement, reminiscing about the days when it was mistakenly labeled as a ster**d. But times have changed, and so has the understanding behind creatine.

Schwarzenegger dismisses the notion behind hair loss

Arnold Schwarzenegger set the record straight: “Currently, no evidence suggests creatine causes hair loss.” He stood firm on this point, backed by an arsenal of research. Over one thousand studies have delved into the effects of creatine, and the consensus is clear: hair loss isn’t on the list. The confusion originated from a study in 2009, which hinted at a potential link between creatine and increased DHT levels—a hormone associated with hair loss.

However, the findings were not as alarming as they seemed. The changes in DHT were minimal and well within normal fluctuations, posing little to no threat to your precious locks. Furthermore, creatine has been exonerated in changes to androgen levels, another factor that can influence hair follicles. Multiple studies have failed to establish a connection between creatine and androgen levels, further solidifying its innocence in the hair loss debate.

The 76-year-old emphasized the importance of quality when it comes to supplementation. A staggering “88% used a form of creatine with limited or no evidence of effectiveness or safety.”  Considering the safety of people’s health Schwarzenegger recommended the use of “momentous Creatine.” In addition, Schwarzenegger even disclosed the amount of creatine you can take to boost your energy level.

Creatine can help your brain work fine even after sleep-deprived: Arnie

Previously, Schwarzenegger highlighted a groundbreaking study showing that even when you don’t get enough sleep, taking a single dose of creatine can keep your brain working well. The study involved people who didn’t sleep enough for two nights and then did mental tasks. Results showed that those who took placebo did worse, while those who took creatine did better and felt less tired.

Creatine seems to help your brain have more energy, which is helpful when you haven’t slept enough. What’s impressive is that these benefits showed up after just two nights, even though it takes a month of taking creatine to see benefits. Usually, people take 3 to 5 grams of creatine a day for muscles and around 10 grams for the brain. But in this study, participants took about 20 grams each night to fight sleep deprivation. Even though it is safe, too much may upset your stomach, although no one in this particular study had this problem.

While there’s a misconception floating around the internet, Arnold Schwarzenegger is trying his best to debunk the myths surrounding fitness and supplements.
