In a Tik Tok video, plus-size activist social media influencer Jae’lynn Chaney shed light on the topic of fat acceptance and the challenges plus-size individuals face when traveling by air. Wearing a 6XL clothing size, Chaney actively expressed her frustrations about the inadequate accommodations for larger passengers, and she urged for changes in airline policies. Nevertheless, her statements have since triggered significant backlash across various social media platforms.
The TikToker voiced her concerns, stating that for someone of her size, it is practically a necessity to buy two seats for a comfortable flight experience. Consequently, this makes traveling unaffordable for those unable to bear the extra expense. She went on to describe the array of difficulties she encounters as a plus-size person during her trips. These issues include inadequately sized seatbelts on public transport and airplane restrooms that are too small for her to use comfortably. In response, former IFBB pro and prominent figure in the bodybuilding community, Greg Doucette took to his YouTube channel to address the plus-size model and offer advice on altering her body, rather than expecting airlines to modify their policies.

In response to Chaney’s video, the record-holding powerlifter expressed his disagreement with her perspective. He emphasized the point by using The Mountain as an example, who is indeed a massive figure, standing at 6 feet 8 inches and weighing nearly 400 pounds. Moreover, the Canadian bodybuilder raised the question of why The Mountain doesn’t insist on having two seats during air travel. “Have you ever seen the Mountain 6 foot 8 close to 400 pounds? He has to fly in the plane. Does he complain that I want 2 seats all to myself?”
The 25-year-old Content Creator primarily aims to address the issue of plus-size accommodations during air travel in order to initiate change. She asserts that airlines ought to alter their policies, incorporating larger seats and thus making travel more accessible and comfortable for individuals of all sizes. On the other hand, the 47-year-old trainer presents a contrasting view by encouraging individuals to take responsibility for their health instead of seeking alterations from external parties. He emphasizes the significance of participating in physical activities and adhering to a well-balanced diet in order to achieve a healthier weight, thereby eliminating the necessity for extra accommodations. “you can in fact do something about it, you can actually go on a diet, you can start doing cardio.”
