Jay Cutler’s bodybuilding journey was not a linear path to success. The mass monster legend saw various ups and downs during his journey to lift the Sandow trophy. By 18, Cutler was already winning teenage championships. But glory would come later, in 2006, when he dethroned 8x Mr. Olympia Ronnie Coleman. One would think it marked the beginning of Quad Stomper’s success story. However, he fell from grace again in 2008. Nonetheless, Cutler picked himself up and shocked the world with his physique in 2009. Earlier, the Comeback King reminisced about his time during 2009, which he considers his prime. Another famous IFBB pro shared his amazement at the behemoth’s greatness.

Jay Cutler, who celebrated his 50th birthday on August 3, took to Instagram and posted an ode to the year he made a comeback by defeating Dexter Jackson. Fitness coach and retired pro Rich Gaspari recalled the time he witnessed Cutler at the “Mecca of Bodybuilding.” Before making his return to the stage, Cutler had spent hours slogging at Gold’s Gym to attain perfection.

The CEO of Cutler Nutrition had already bagged two Mr. Olympia trophies by then. However, in 2008, he was shocked to smithereens when Dexter Jackson appeared bigger and better than Cutler on stage. The mass monster admits he got complacent. However, he used the roadblock as an opportunity to better himself. In 2009, the fitness icon snatched back his title and did the famous quad stomper pose. The bodybuilding arena had never seen a body so massive and ripped. It was like every fiber of his body screamed hard work and the passion to be the best in the world.

Looking at the throwback picture, even Rich Gaspari bowed down to Cutler’s supremacy in the Instagram comments section. He said, “I remember seeing Jay at the Gold’s Gym for a photo shoot, and I am not impressed by seeing bodybuilders, but that day after the Olympia, you looked like you were made of stone. You were hard and dense. You didn’t look real!” Cutler may not be famous for aesthetics or symmetry, but no one stood a chance against him when it came to muscle mass. It is a great compliment from the three-time Mr. Olympia runner-up and stalwart of professional bodybuilding. Gaspari, too, like Cutler, charted a winding road to greatness. He eventually became one of the top athletes of his time.

Gaspari was the first Arnold Classic winner in 1989. Furthermore, he stood second in the 1986, 1987, and 1988 Mr. Olympia championships. However, the Gaspari Nutrition owner proved the naysayers wrong. Furthermore, he changed the sport of bodybuilding by introducing extreme conditioning.
