Jay Cutler’s name is forever etched in bodybuilding history with his win over the legendary Ronnie Coleman in 2006. After which he lifted three more Sandow trophies, becoming a 4-time Mr. Olympia champion. He also secured his place next to the great Arnold Schwarzenegger and Franco Columbu for winning the title in non-consecutive years. In his latest version of Culter Cast, the Quad Stomp opened up about his training regime during his prime that led to his success.

The 49-year-old started a ‘Fit for 50’ challenge last year to ace a physique resembling prime for his 50th birthday. The bodybuilder now spilled beans on how his training regime from the prime differs from his ongoing bodybuilding sessions.

Jay Cutler drew a comparison between his older and younger self in the 81st episode of Cutler Cast titled, “Will Jay compete again?” The bodybuilder confessed, “I’m a bit lazier than what I was then,” before adding, “At 49, your drive is a lot different than it was at 29.”

Unfortunately, I did a lot of outrageous things to get to those like food amounts and crazy cart training sessions and cardio,” he said while recollecting his training days during his peak career.

He further revealed that such strenuous workout sessions at the gym impacted his nervous system. However, he is not pursuing such methods any more. “I’m not pushing beyond that,” he added. Cutler is becoming more goal-oriented to achieve his latest fitness challenge. However, he once tested positive for diuretics in 2003.

A testing system was in place after a bodybuilding champion’s sudden demise in 1996. But in 2003, Cutler was tested positive for diuretics, which made him threaten the league with a lawsuit.

“They were like, ‘Okay, well we won’t keep testing, and you get the chance to keep your prize money too. We will just do away with the testing,'” said Ronnie Coleman while narrating his rival’s episode. They discontinued the testing system after that.
