Despite Unleashing an Emotional Toll on Family, Arnold Schwarzenegger Made Sure His Kids Don’t Suffer: “Kids Are Totally Innocent”

Seven-times Mr. Olympia Arnold Schwarzenegger has always been open about his divorce from his ex-wife, Maria Shriver. After staying married for 25 years, the couple decided to split up in 2011 after Maria learned about Schwarzenegger’s affair with housemaid Mildred Baena. While the divorce was finalized much later in 2021, the couple made sure to not let this affect their children’s lives.

In order to ensure this, the couple had to work closely, despite their bitter relationship, and ensure that the kids didn’t feel the lack of either parent. As the bodybuilding legend recently appeared on a podcast with Jay Shetty, he gave further insights into this. Let’s take a look.

As Arnold is looking forward to the release of his new book, ‘Be Useful: Seven Tools for Life,’ he has been busy promoting it for the past few weeks. As he featured in the recent episode of the Jay Shetty podcast, he explained the synergy between him and Shriver. While Schwarzenegger has admitted countless times that the marriage ended because of his mistake, he recently also acknowledged that without Shriver’s support, things would have been different for ‘The Austrian Oak.’

Continuing further, Arnold pointed out, “It’s one thing if you suffer through it; it’s another thing if your wife suffers through it, but the kids…are really totally innocent bystanders, right?” Adding to this, he revealed, “So my wife and I were very good in working together. So the kids don’t really feel a bump in the road, and that things are smooth for them.”

While Schwarzenegger has been dating Heather Milligan for almost a decade, the couple has no plans to put a ring on the relationship. Despite his current relationship, Schwarzenegger is good friends with his ex-wife, Maria Shriver, and believes that his “chapter with Maria will continue on forever.”

In an old interview, Arnold said, “We never left the [first] chapter,” the 76-year-old said before confessing his mistake. Because, remember, it’s not like we had a feud. We didn’t have a fight. It’s just my f— up, right? She said, ‘Okay, this is what it is,’ and then she decided to make a split, so it was her decision.“
