Nora Langdon is no common grandma as she owns multiple wins at state, national, and world powerlifting competitions. The 80-year-old paints a beautiful picture of how one should lead the later years of life. Langdon took to powerlifting in 2006 and with consistency, she mastered the sport to become a powerlifting champion.

The grandma is not used to sports before plunging into powerlifting. However, now she trains hard to secure her number 1 place in elite competitions. Langdon is proud of her achievements for her age and aspires to compete in more events.

In a throwback YouTube video posted by Refinery29, the 78-year-old grandma was gearing up for the 2021 World Powerlifting Congress World Championships. In the video, the powerlifting grandma gives a glimpse of her athletic journey.

I’d never done any sports. I didn’t know anything about powerlifting. I’d never even heard about powerlifting,” she confessed in the video about her inexperience before becoming a professional in the sport. However, things took a turn when she realized her difficulty in climbing stairs due to being overweight.  In 2006 she took to powerlifting and ever since smashing records in the sport.

I’m a professional powerlifter. I can lift 338 pounds. Nobody can beat that record in my age group,” a proud Langdon exclaims. But more than anything she wants to “inspire all women” with her capabilities and records. Her father’s words motivated her to keep up with the challenging journey. 

The motivating words of Dad inspired the 80-year-old grandma

Everything that you want in life, you have to get up and do it yourself,”  Langdon used to hear from her father since childhood which motivated her throughout.

Her trainer is her friend’s husband whom she met at a birthday party. He made her first day of gym quite challenging and after strenuous tasks, Nora Langdon thought of not hitting the gym again but her inner voice said,” Look, go back,” pushing her to pursue further. Now her records include 314 lbs squat, 160 lbs bench, and 336 lbs deadlift.

Nora Langdon is synonymous to will power. The old grandma took up the difficult sport of powerlifting after retirement and mastered it like a pro. She is a true inspiration for many. Earlier the 80-year-old managed to impress bodybuilding champion, Flex Wheeler with her deadlifting talent.
