Wheels recently appeared on the Flexis Lewis: Straight Outta The Lair podcast and spilled beans on the interesting aspects of his athletic life. In the podcast episode, the 28-year-old revealed how he built a muscular physique without proper equipment. He added that he is proud of his muscle gains in his teens.

Larry Wheels steps toward a bodybuilding physique

The bodybuilding community stresses lifting weights to build a toned and muscular physique. While many build physiques to flaunt their muscles, Wheels wanted a ripped frame to protect himself from bullying. Struggling with depression, the powerlifter resorted to lifting weights to comfort himself as a teenager. 

When I was 13-14 I definitely struggled with bullying and depression and that’s what sparked my interest in with lifting weights in the first place,” he confessed on the show. As a consequence, the bullying stopped, and Wheels found his passion.

Reflecting on the physique he used to have back in the day, the powerlifter revealed, “I put on some serious size, I look pretty jacked, no, I wasn’t like bodybuilder Jack, but I had a great physique.” He obtained such a frame after a couple of years of “lifting with a broomstick and cinder blocks.” However, despite being at the top of his career, not everything is rosy for the 2x World Record holder.

Larry Wheels is diagnosed with Rhabdomyolysis

Despite a struggling childhood, Wheels proved his worth by becoming a World record-holding athlete in the powerlifting arena. The 28-year-old glory includes 2275 lbs raw lifts comprising squat, bench press, and deadlift. However, Wheels fans were upset when the powerlifting icon shared a sad update on Instagram.

The powerlifter shared a picture of him on the hospital bed a month ago and mentioned, “I fk*d around and got Rhabdo. lightheaded af” in the caption. To the unversed, Rhabdomyolysis can be life-threatening as it causes muscle tissues to disintegrate and release into the blood flow. The disease can have an impact on the liver and kidneys.
