Filmstar, Arnold Schwarzenegger‘s illustrious acting career boasts of several movie hits. However, one feature that could have brought greater fame to his forte is the long-awaited sequel to his 1982 action hit, Conan The Barbarian. Speaking to ‘The Hollywood Reporter’, the actor recently shed light on the matter and revealed why the movie has been pending for ten years. 

He claimed that there are other directors and scripts that are waiting to work on The Legend of Conan and release it. But, producer, Fredrik Malmberg owns the rights to the movie, so, until he sells it for the franchise, it’s not coming around.

In the THR interview, the 75-year-old icon was asked if there was any update on the “pending” Conan sequel. He disclosed that it’s been on the waitlist for a decade now. And yet, Malmberg comes to Schwarzenegger and claims that he’s had a deal with OTT giant, Netflix. “Oh, I have a deal with Netflix,” the actor recalled him saying. 

Nevertheless, when enquired about the same, Netflix asserted that nothing of the sort had come to their notice. He added, “It’s one of those crazy things.” The Austrian Oak hoped that the producer “figures it out” soon and referenced the 1992 Western film, Unforgiven. He opined that it must be done in a similar manner, “where you play the age.”

The IFBB pro also shared that intriguing storylines are waiting to be acknowledged, and directors are willing to craft their creativity. “There’s a great script out there that John Milius wrote,” Schwarzenegger told. Unfortunately, Malmberg’s ownership of rights restricts the other directors from going ahead with the movie. Therefore, until he sells the rights for his movie or the franchise, “there’s nothing you can do about it,” the 6’2” star athlete let out. Besides that, Schwarzenegger once shared another anecdote from the iconic movie shoot.

The pro was yet to make a name for himself in the film industry after his success in bodybuilding. Thus, Conan served as the canal for his grand fame in Hollywood. However, his initial experience wasn’t as ideal. On the first day, Schwarzenegger had to undergo 12 stitches because a wolf pulled him down from a rock, and both fell, leaving the actor severely injured. 

“It was all the way from the beginning that I had really wild and the great experience,” he reminisced. Moreover, he told that director, John Milius was impressed and declared that toughness was all the movie was about.

The challenges thrown at the actor were dealt with expertise and fortitude. And once again he is ready to execute the same for the iconic sequel, that is, if the shooting kicks off ever.
