In the golden age of bodybuilding, one of the most recognized names was definitely that of the mass monster, Dorian Yates. With an impeccable body and exceptional strength, he dominated the realms of the sport at his peak. Dorian Yates has been featured in several fitness magazines and is still looked upon as one of the greatest bodybuilders in history.

In a recent revelation on the internet, a rather saddening turn of events in his life was demonstrated. It was during the year 1994, just a few weeks away from the Olympia and the Grand Prix shows, that the hurdles on his way derailed the plans and accomplishments set by the Mass Monster.

What happened in 1994 with Dorian Yates?

In 1994, Dorian Yates was in a photo shoot for Flex Magazine, exactly a week before the Grand Prix shows. He was signed for three of the shows, which would begin in Spain and finish in Nottingham. However, as per the revelation, the Mass Monster faced severe injuries that prevented him from staying as fit as he wanted to, which was why he wanted to take a break from the shows.

As mentioned in the post by Paul Baxendale, “Not only did Dorian have his bicep tear to contend with but once back in Birmingham he got a stomach bug which literally meant he couldn’t eat a thing for days, obviously his immune and nervous system was hammered by the Olympia anyway so it really took him out.” On facing such a devastating accident, he called Wayne DeMelia for his cancellation, and initially, DeMelia was sympathetic.

But things took a turn in just a few hours. As mentioned in the post, “However, just hours later Ben Weider called him threatening legal action if he didn’t fulfill his contractual obligations!” This changed everything for him, and Yates tried convincing each promoter to offer him a guest pose at the very least. As he turned up for guest posing, running into someone and taking up their advice turned the tables for him once again.

Dorian Yates took over the stage in 1994, even after not being at his best

After reaching Spain, The 6X Mr. Olympia champion was depleted beyond imagination, however, he became extremely shredded. Having discussed the condition of his physique with Peter McGough, he was advised to get onstage and win the prize money instead of just guest posing.

Taking up his advice, he won the show and then won again in Germany. He defeated Kevin Levrone and Charles Chaire Monte. He finally came back home and was ready to bring back his best version by the year 1995! What are your thoughts on the 1994 journey of Dorian Yates?
