Arnold Schwarzenegger?is among the fittest 75-year-olds in the world. Schwarzenegger uses his decades of experience and the power of research to maintain his health. However, at the beginning of the year, the seven-time Mr. Olympia decided to share his knowledge with others through his newsletter,?Arnold’s Pump Club. In the latest edition of his fitness newsletter, the?bodybuilding?legend spoke about fitness, sleep, and aging as parts of the same puzzle.

While the average person might not give sleeping a second thought, since January, Arnie has talked about the subject multiple times. Schwarzenegger knows the power of sleep and how good sleep can have massive benefits. So what?“secret weapon”?did Arnie write about?

Arnold Schwarzenegger wrote that most people are aware of basic sleep hygiene practices like reducing screen time, eating early, etc.?“But did you know that aging affects how well you sleep and might be why you’re not getting high-quality rest?”?wrote Arnie in his fitness newsletter. Yet again, Schwarzenegger used data to help explain his point.

Schwarzenegger highlighted some surveys that found people in their 30s and 40s have a harder time falling asleep than those in their 20s.?“In general ? not necessarily spending as much time in restorative sleep,”?Arnie wrote. He also pointed out that the effects get worse with weight gain. The 75-year-old said?“part of the issue”??is because of bad lifestyle decisions.

Due to a slowing metabolism, among other things, the body finds it harder to recover from a night of partying or less than 5 hours of sleep. With gaining,?“You?ll typically experience a decline in deep non-rapid eye movement (NREM),”?informed the fitness icon. However, the secret to boosting?“slow wave sleep”?is regular exercise.

Since exercise breaks down muscle tissue, the body has to?“repair itself.”?Hence, it goes into slow-wave sleep more often, regardless of weight gain. Even though NREM sleep?“decreases as you get older,”?in his newsletter, Arnie wrote?that working out helps combat the decline. Since NREM sleep preserves cognitive processing, memory, and brain health, it’s something no one should ignore. However, for those with extremely busy schedules, Arnold Schwarzenegger has also written about other methods of boosting sleep.

Exercise helps a person sleep better and combat aging. However, a busy or sleep-deprived individual will find it incredibly hard to workout properly. Hence, improving the duration of sleep is also necessary. In a February edition of his fitness newsletter, Arnie talked about how the one-hour fix?might help people get on the right path.

The bodybuilding legend wrote that adding one hour of sleep can help people with chronic sleep deprivation. According to the research Arnie highlighted, adding just an hour to someone’s daily sleep duration improved their eating habits, reducing hunger and sugar cravings.

While sleep is something many people sacrifice first, Arnie revealed it might not be such a great idea. As NREM sleep reduces with aging, people should think twice before skipping a workout.
