Former bodybuilding great, Dorian Yates’s illustrious career and accolades have encouraged several aspirants to look up to him for crucial advice on training. His six Mr. Olympia titles were the fruition of years of consistency and mindful training. Therefore, in a recent post on Instagram, the star athlete decided to share a precious bit of advice for his fans.?

Yates revealed the most persistent shoulder workout he prioritized throughout his achievement-laden career, which was the dumbbell shoulder press. However, his go-to workout had to be altered later on because it was getting risky. Thus, he switched to another form of the workout and explained its usage and why he chose to exercise with it anyway, in the caption.?

As per the source shared only hours ago, the 61-year-old pro chipped in two intriguing snaps of him performing the workout back in the day. The foremost picture showed Yates working out with the shoulder dumbbells on either side whereas in the next one, he hit the Smith Machine to workout his upper body.

?For the majority of my competitive bodybuilding career, seated dumbbell shoulder press was a staple in my shoulder routine,? the former athlete wrote. Moreover, Yates mentioned that he worked his way up to 160 lbs with the dumbbells over the years but it was eventually getting risky to position them even with his full-time training partner?s assistance.?

?I worked my way up to 160lb dumbbells over the years and to be honest, it became quite dangerous to get the dumbbells into position, even with the help of Kenny. I decided to make a switch and use the smith machine? it felt great!? the American icon revealed. Well, what was his strategy with the Smith Machine??

After chucking the dumbbells for good, the English bodybuilder learned his way around the Smith Machine. ?With the Smith machine, it allowed me to easily incorporate intensity techniques and one that I used a lot here were rest pauses,? he added. He even shared the form of his workouts. After a continuous chain of 6-8 reps, the IFBB icon re-racked the bar and took two deep breaths followed by another 1-2 reps.?
