The people’s champ Derek Lunsford has returned to his routine after dethroning Hadi Choopan. After achieving a huge victory at Mr. Olympia 2023, Lunsford has begun his off-season training. He is taking a break from the intense training and strict diet he had to follow for the competition. The soon-to-be father is back to living a normal life and spending his time with his family. But don’t be fooled- he is ready to work hard on his next steps.

The bodybuilding beast made history by being the first athlete to ever win in two different categories at the Mr. Olympia stage. In 2021, he won the 212 Mr. Olympia title, then debuted at the Open Division in 2022. With his incredible conditioning, Lunsford impressed the judges that year, securing second place. And now, he emerged as the winner this year. The bodybuilding goat Ronnie Coleman consistently predicted Derek would win and his prophecy became reality.

Even though the reigning champion is not in the spotlight of the competition right now, he is is still focused on his fitness goals. Recently Lunsford and Coleman collaborated for a training session. They hit the gym and delved into a fun workout session. The bodybuilding legend uploaded a video on his YouTube channel and titled it, “RONNIE COLEMAN & DEREK LUNSFORD Train Days After Winning Mr. Olympia.”

The training session took place days after the event wrapped up. During the video, he confessed that Coleman’s belief in him put a lot of pressure, but it also motivated him to do his best and win the title. “I was like for one, I can’t let him down. He believes in me and we’re supposed to work out and hang out afterward and I don’t want to I have to be, the Mr. Olympia I have to be champ,” said the 260 lbs bodybuilder.

He further added to his confession, “When I go hang out with him I can’t be number two if there was any pressure it came from you.” In response to that former Cop replied, “Well I knew, I just had this feeling, and uh I’ve had it before and I was right so I’m like I’m going with it again.” Coleman’s confidence in Lunsford was like a powerful force that pushed him to achieve greatness on the stage. Derek recently shared his off-season plan while interacting with his fans on social media.

Lunsford shared his plans for the upcoming weeks

Lunsford, during a live session on Instagram talked about his plans,  “Well, right now, I’m focused on my baby girl that’s coming.” He further mentioned, “So, for the next few weeks, my wife gets my attention. I’m still going to be training, doing the cardio, and sticking to the bodybuilding lifestyle, because that’s me, that’s how I live. I am bodybuilding. Bodybuilding is me.”

He added,

“So, as far as competing and scheduling out events, I’m not going to do that until I know my baby girl is here and I get to spend some time with my family,” the reigning champion is excited to spend time with his expanded family and not thinking about any other competition right now.
