Arnold Schwarzenegger has been lifting weights since his teenage years. Despite being at the age of 76 years old, he continues to lift weights to date and maintain an active lifestyle, taking good care of his health. Learning from the best himself, his son Joseph Baena is also deep into fitness and bodybuilding.

In an attempt to take good care of his heart health, Baena often indulges in cycling sessions. This is one form of cardio that his father Arnold also loves doing. Quite recently, after Schwarzenegger opened up about his heart surgery, Baena also posted an Instagram story of him paying extra attention to his cardiovascular activities.

While the general misconception is that cardio is important for weight loss, its benefits are not only linked to just losing the extra inches. The general bro science dictates that there is no need to indulge in cardio while maintaining or bulking, this can not be far from the truth. The most important function of performing cardiovascular activities is to maintain and even improve one’s heart health by making it more efficient in pumping blood, and decreasing the chances of a heart attack.

In his recent Instagram story, Baena posted an image of himself cycling. He further revealed in the caption that switching between cardio activities has helped him a lot. “Switching up the cardio has become a game changer,” Baena wrote.

The story came just a short while after the launch of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s new book, ‘Total Recall: My Unbelievably True Life Story.’ Amidst many other things that Schwarzenegger talked about in the book, he disclosed in detail the incident that happened on the day of his second heart surgery.

Arnold Schwarzenegger and his quandary

‘The Austrian Oak’ had a genetic condition called aortic stenosis, which causes the heart to pump harder than usual to get blood through the aortic valve. He talked about this in the book and revealed that the doctor had told him there were two ways to operate on him. The first option was the easier one, but it would require him to quit all intense physical activities, including lifting and performing stunts. The other option was to replace it with an organic valve, which is made of living tissue. This procedure would mean that he can do whatever he wants after a particular rest period.

However, there was a catch. “The particular procedure he recommended worked only six times out of ten.” The doctor admitted, “I want you to understand that in sixty percent to seventy percent of cases, the surgery works, but in thirty percent to forty percent of the cases, the replacement valve fails.” However, Arnold confidently stated, “It’s fine,” I said. “I’ll take the risk.”
